Peace Beyond Understanding: How to Let Go and Let God Bring You True Peace

Philippians 4:6-7

6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Peace is such a small word but holds a great impact. After having kids and becoming an adult I realized in my early years It was very difficult for me to find peace. I had a hard time with finding peace in my everyday living when it came to the relationships I was in even down to the career path. It's like every day I was getting up and showing up with no peace in my heart, ready for all the troubles of the day and complaining about having to go into a job that made my entire soul cringe.

I didn't find true peace in my heart until I gave my days to the Lord. One day I was sick and tired of being sick and tired. Just fed up with feeling sorry for myself and always doing the bare minimum in life I wanted to feel confident, and ultimately I wanted to be at peace in my life. I wanted a career that I loved, I wanted to be surrounded by people who encouraged me to do better but my entire world was full of problems.

I remember a time when I was on my hardwood floor, tears streaming down my face, and I begged God for a miracle. At one point, I even turned to Google and typed in "Do miracles still exist?" I was desperate for a change in my life, for a reprieve from the mounting bills and worries of being a newly single mom. It was a tough time, but I knew that God was tougher.

Through my journey with God, I learned a few key things that helped me engrave His permanent peace on my heart. I discovered that the only way to find true peace is through Christ - by reading His word and staying in constant communication with Him through obedience and prayer. Even today, I find that the list of things below still helps me find peace in God when it seems like the world around me is falling apart.

1. Wake up early morning and Pray - I found that waking up early before anyone in my home allowed me to focus on God and prayer first. Not allowing the distractions of the day to start but by starting my day in prayer right when I open my eyes, instead of grabbing my phone like I used to, I say thank you Lord for this day, I say a quiet prayer and ask for his peace to dwell in my heart and I lay in gratitude for 5 minutes before jumping out of bed in a hurry to start a hectic day. I learned that this does set the tone for my day and it allows me to ease into my day knowing that I first spoke to God intimately and asked for his peace. I also find it very helpful to listen to a Sermon playing in the back while getting ready for the day or cleaning in the mornings you can get a word in while multi-tasking.

2. Go on a prayer walk- On your walk pray to God, stop and smell the flowers in the garden, take a look at the sky and look at the beautiful clouds that are floating by. Soak up the goodness of all of God's creation. I enjoy being out in nature in the fresh air surrendering to God and his beauty has allowed his peace to enter my heart.

3. Meditate on Scripture - Finding a beautiful scripture in regards to peace or what you may be feeling and quietly repeating this to yourself as often as you can remember throughout the day does put you in a great mood to experience more of God's peace. You're reminding yourself of His power and love and as often as you can remember when you repeat this scripture to yourself throughout the day you will gain more confidence in the word of God. You will feel empowered by the word and you can walk around with more peace in your heart knowing that God's word holds truth.

Life can be hectic at times but it's important that we slow down and sit at the feet of Jesus, we must allow Him into parts of our soul that need his grace and healing.

I hope these 3 tips help you on your days when it feels tough to get that peace you desire.

2: Thessalonians 3:16

16 Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you.

Warmly, Camille Alane
