3 Types of Friends God wants you to Have

Do friends really come and go?

I know we've all heard the saying, “Friends come and go” right ? Well I guess it’s sort of true to some extent. As for me, I've had friends come into my life for a season, and I have friends that I've known for years that are still hanging around. (shout out to yall) But honestly, I’ve been hurt by friends, betrayed, and I’ve also been honored by friends and loved, I guess I’ve had a taste of both worlds. I’m sure you can agree with me right ? But what type of friend does God want us to have ? Does he only want us to hang around Christian friends?

Honestly Sis, I believe that God wants the best for us in everything. Whether it’s from the choices we make in life in general, or the friends we decide to share our lives with. God created us out of love and for companionship and I truthfully believe he wants us to choose the best friends for us, after all we are his children and He looks after us, just as a mother or father would look after his own child. Below I have listed 3 types of friends that I believe God wants us to have in life.

  •  One trustworthy friend-  In Proverbs 18:24 it says, “One with many friends may be harmed, but there is a friend who stays closer than a brother.” This verse clearly says that having a lot of friends is not really beneficial, sometimes in life growing up we can think it's cool to have tons of friends, but in reality is it really cool ? Do we really need tons of friends to be cool ? Absolutely not ! And God says so as well, we only need one true friend who loves us and who honors us, just as we love and honor them.

  • A friend with patience -  God speaks a lot about patience. Which is a really big deal. Jesus showed so much patience throughout the Bible in his daily walk, and it's important for us as believers to try our best to walk like Jesus. God not only wants for us to practice patience just as Jesus did, He also wants us to surround ourselves with people of good character. Which means our friends should be patient and loving, so we can grow together in God’s word. In Proverbs 22:24-25 “Do not make friends with a hot-tempered person, do not associate with one easily angered, or you may learn their ways and get yourself ensnared.”

  • A loving friend- God wants us to have a loving friend in our life. Having a loving friend means having someone that we can talk to when we're in need. Someone who we can share our secrets with and someone who will not judge us. Although God is all of these things and more for us, He also wants for us to have a loving friend by our side in life. Scripture says in Proverbs 17:17 “A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity” God wants your friend to be loving at all times but also never sugar coat the truth for you, a friend who sincerely loves you.

There you have it Sis ! 3 Friends that I believe God wants us to have in our life. Always remember that your friends are a product of who you are. The more you hang around someone or associate yourself with someone, you may take on some of their characteristics. If you’re having a hard time choosing your friends wisely you can always ask God in prayer for help. If you’re having some trouble praying for this I have listed a prayer below to help you on your journey to having the best friends that you deserve in your life. Have a good day Sis ! Don’t forget to create sunshine wherever you go.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, Thank you for blessing me with this day, thank you for blessing me with life. I know I’m not always perfect but you always show up for me, today I am praying and asking for guidance, I ask that you bless me with the friends that you want me to have in my life, I ask that you bless me with the friends that are good for my soul. Please remove any person in my life that is not for me or in your will. Thank you Lord in advance for your guidance. I love you, I appreciate you. In Jesus name I pray amen.

Warmly,

Camille Alane
